Parents 1st is an approved accreditation centre and is able to offer the City and Guilds 3599 Award in Work with Parents.

This is a well-recognised vocational qualification based on National Occupational Standards for Work with Parents. All those who work with parents in the public, voluntary and private sectors are expected to meet these standards.

Being a vocational qualification means it is designed to help the learner gain knowledge and skills in a practical way. So, not lots of essay writing and no exams to sit!

Parents 1st offers all their volunteer peer supporters the opportunity to start working towards the qualification alongside their experience of supporting parents/families.

The Award usually takes up to a year to complete and those wishing to gain the qualification will need to commit to putting in additional personal time to build a learning portfolio and meet with an assessor on a regular basis. An assessor offers guidance on building evidence for the learning portfolio and gives feedback on evidence submitted.

To achieve the City and Guilds 3599 Award in Work with Parents qualification there are three units to complete:

  • Unit 300 Build and maintain relationships in work with parents

  • Unit 304 Effective communication with parents

  • Unit 315 Delivering services that value and respect parents
